Thanks for the feedback, my understanding was the temp gauge stays lock on its normal operational temperature once its reached - which would be 250°F (needle facing up north) - like the older BMW, but I understand the older BMWs measures coolant temp, instead of the oil temp and it usually pointing I recently had my e60 525i radiator top hose and all o-rings in the coolant hose replaced, radiator flushed and serviced, and cooling system flushed after that.
